David Allan Cates is the author of five novels, most recently, TOM CONNOR'S GIFT, winner of a gold medal in the Independent Publisher Book Awards. His short stories have appeared in numerous literary journals, and his non-fiction in OUTSIDE MAGAZINE and THE NEW YORK TIMES SOPHISTICATED TRAVELER. He's the executive director of Missoula Medical Aid, a non-profit that provides public health and surgery services in Honduras, and he teaches in the Rainier Writing Workshop, a low-residency MFA program. THE MYSTERIOUS LOCATION OF KYRGYZSTAN is his first collection of poetry.
